PROJECT REQUIREMENTS
- Remote control of external temperature controller: The system needed to initiate, stop, and adjust temperatures via remote commands.
- Motor activation control: Operators required functionality to toggle motors on and off through the software.
- Customizable, user-friendly interface: Each technician needed to tailor test parameters easily without programming knowledge.
- Ergonomic, height-adjustable mobile cart: The cart design allowed technicians to operate tests while seated or standing.
- Modern alternative to obsolete PLC hardware: Legacy hardware and software were unserviceable, demanding a contemporary and programmable replacement.
- Automated, continuous test operation: The system had to run unattended through test intervals, dramatically accelerating throughput.
SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
Pipeline was tasked with overhauling an outdated test system that relied on a legacy PLC, which had become a bottleneck for the client’s lab testing operations. Because the previous hardware was obsolete and the software unmodifiable, any updates or changes to test routines required extensive downtime or were simply impossible.
Pipeline’s solution integrated our proprietary EZ Motion controls software to allow operators full flexibility in customizing & automating motion & temperature tests without writing any code.
The mobile cart featured an intuitive user interface and automated communication with a temperature controller and motor functions. This allowed for entirely unattended operation—eliminating the need for technicians to stop work at the end of the day just to adjust testing intervals. With this new implementation, tasks that previously took multiple days or weeks can now be completed in just hours or a couple of days.
