SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES
The customer needed a way to life cycle test the mechanical reliability of medical device connectors with many pins inside. They also needed a way to measure the initial insertion force as well as the final insertion force to ensure the connectors were not wearing out over time. An additional layer of challenge in the project was that the machine needed to accommodate over 50 different connector geometries.
Pipeline developed a 3-up machine with modular connector nests that allowed different styles of connectors to be held in place during the insertion testing. Custom software was created in LabVIEW to control the motion and data acquisition aspects of the system. Pipeline performed all of the R&D, design, creation of manufacturing documentation, procurement, assembly, troubleshooting and delivered the turnkey machine to the customer along with extensive documentation, training for the customers’ operators, and a user manual.
